The olfactory system becomes more sensitive when odor inputs are weak, and less sensitive when confronted with strong odors

Queue Length and Server Content Distribution in an Infinite-Buffer Batch-Service Queue with Batch-Size-Dependent Service

    Get PDF
We analyze an infinite-buffer batch-size-dependent batch-service queue with Poisson arrival and arbitrarily distributed service time. Using supplementary variable technique, we derive a bivariate probability generating function from which the joint distribution of queue and server content at departure epoch of a batch is extracted and presented in terms of roots of the characteristic equation. We also obtain the joint distribution of queue and server content at arbitrary epoch. Finally, the utility of analytical results is demonstrated by the inclusion of some numerical examples which also includes the investigation of multiple zeros

Hall Current and Radiation Effects on Unsteady Natural Convection MHD flow with Inclined Magnetic field

    Get PDF
In the present paper, Hall current and radiation effects on unsteady natural convection MHD flow with inclined magnetic field is studied. The viscous, incompressible and an electrically conducting fluid is considered. This model contains equations of motion, equation of energy and diffusion equation. The system of partial differential equations is transformed to dimensionless equations by using dimensionless variables. Exact solution of governing equations is obtained by Laplace Transform Technique. For analysing the solution of the model, desirable sets of the values of the parameters have been considered. The obtained results of velocity, concentration and temperature have been analysed with the help of graphs drawn for different parameters. The numerical values of Nusselt number have been tabulated. The results of the study may find applications in the field related to the solar physics dealing with the solar cycle, Magnetohydrodynamics sensors, rotating MHD induction machine energy generator, the sunspot development, the structure of rotating magnetic stars etc

(R1501) Rotational and Hall Current Effects on a Free Convection MHD Flow with Radiation and Inclined Magnetic Field

    Get PDF
Rotational and Hall current effects on a free convection MHD flow with Radiation and inclined magnetic field are studied here. Electrically conducting, viscous, and incompressible fluid is taken. The flow is modelled with the help of partial differential equations. The analytical solutions for the velocity, concentration, and temperature are solved by the Laplace integral transform method. The outcomes acquired have been examined with the help of graphs drawn for different parameters like Hartmann number, Hall current parameter, inclination of magnetic field, angular velocity and radiation parameter, etc. The variation of the Nusselt number has been shown graphically. It is observed that Hall current parameter and inclination of magnetic field reduces the resistive effect of the applied external magnetic field. Such a study assumes importance because both rotation and Hall current induce secondary flow in the flow-field. The conclusion of the study may be useful in the field of solar physics, rotating magnetic stars, rotating MHD induction machine energy generator and many industrial applications

Flux Tube Model Signals for Baryon Correlations in Heavy Ion Collisions

The flux tube model offers a pictorial description of what happens during the deconfinement phase transition in QCD. The 3-point vertices of a flux tube network lead to formation of baryons upon hadronisation. Therefore, correlations in the baryon number distribution at the last scattering surface are related to the preceding pattern of the flux tube vertices, and provide a signature of the nearby deconfinement phase transition. I discuss the nature of the expected signal, which should be observable in heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC.Comment: LaTeX, 9 pages, 5 figures, (v2) Several arguments expanded for clarity, (v3) Minor typesetting changes, published versio

Occurrence of Streptomyces aurantiacus in Mangroves of Bhitarkanika

    Get PDF
Thirteen strains of Streptomyces were isolated from phyllosphere of nine mangrove tree species found in Bhitarkanika mangrove ecosystem of Orissa. According to physiological, biochemical data, all 13 of the isolates were taxonomically identified to the genus Streptomyces as aurantiacus species. All strains are grayish, spirals and forming amorphous colony. Almost all utilized araginose, produced H2S, resistant towards rifampicin and penicillin, urea except few strains. However, they exhibited different extracellular activity like phosphate solubilization, lipase and L asparaginase production. This is a unique report from this mangrove ecosystem as far as Streptomyces occurrence is concerned

The continuum limit of quark number susceptibilities

    Get PDF
We report the continuum limit of quark number susceptibilities in quenched QCD. Deviations from ideal gas behaviour at temperature T increase as the lattice spacing is decreased from T/4 to T/6, but a further decrease seems to have very little effect. The measured susceptibilities are 20% lower than the ideal gas values, and also 10% below the hard thermal loop (HTL) results. The off-diagonal susceptibility is several orders of magnitude smaller than the HTL results. We verify a strong correlation between the lowest screening mass and the susceptibility. We also show that the quark number susceptibilities give a reasonable account of the Wroblewski parameter, which measures the strangeness yield in a heavy-ion collision.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure
